Heavy Thinking!

This is where you will find the “Pearls of Wisdom” I have harvested from oceans of metaphysical thought and other bullshit. I hope you enjoy it.

Dreaming a new me!

While it may be true that no one is perfect, seeking perfection my still be what it is all about. You probably think I’m going to give you that old “life is a journey of self-discovery and actualization” dribble, and you’re right.

With the changes in our world – 9/11, Middle-Eastern conflicts and Global Economic and Environmental chaos – there have come changes within us. Many of these changes have been thrust upon us, leaving us with feelings of inadequacy, of somehow lacking in control of our very own lives. Other changes have come more gradually and have resulted from determination, resolve and survival instinct.

Discipline has been required in meeting some of our current challenges, and it is a commitment to ourselves and a faith in ourselves that will sustain us. I have put these qualities into action by embarking on an enterprise of re-invention of myself.

I have applied a system of self education to acquire greater knowledge of who, what and where we are, so that I could alter my lifestyle and achieve a higher level of health in body, mind and spirit. I have many Mentors to thank for their guidance and persuasion. In the end it is a path with many branches and we are left alone with the decision on which course to take. Each offers its own consequences, its rewards and its regrets. It is through understanding that the wisdom is gained to make the choice to seek a higher level of being and ultimately achieve perfection.

When we speak of Nirvana we are referring, in the Buddhist context, to the blowing out of the fires of greed, hatred, and delusion. In Hindu philosophy, it is the union with the Supreme Being through Moshka. We are released from the continuos flow or cycle of death and rebirth. Perfection is never reached with a singular grasp and not while we exist incarnate. It is achieved through effort and desire to know the absolute, the first cause, the ontological truth.

Having an understanding that we manifest as organisms, and then striving to understand what an organism is, what it is meant to do and what it is not meant to do: will go a very long way toward understanding that we are, as the old song goes, Spirits in the Material World. More percisely, a psyche or soul. And as such, it is incumbent upon each of us to take responsibilty and control over our bodies (organism).

By beginning with a sudy of basic biological mechanisms that explain cell growth and health and adding to that an understanding of principals of the physical world, such as cohesion and adhesion, among others; I have learned to employ an individualized system of nutrition (I hate the word DIET) and exercise (I’ve come to look forward to a daily exercise routine) that is allowing me to alter and improve my state of health.

I’m not selling any vitamins or DVDs or self help books. I could only begin by pointing you inward toward your own connection with the Over Soul. I don’t advocate any single religion or philosophy. I would suggest that you explore them all. And again, I advise anyone seeking answers to look within. Jakob Böhme was of a particular influence on me while in my late 20s. The thrust of it is to awaken the small voice within and learn to listen. Much as the warm up stretches awaken my overall body awares prior to a workout (I have more thought on this later) there are meditative exercises to awaken our powers within. Optimally, it is best to endeavour to achieve a level of preparedness both mentally, physically and psychically. Eventually I’ll explain my phrase “Dreaming a new Me!”

More to come…

Speaking of BS, I recently became a member of Bullshit.com. If you are as full of it as I am and would like to sling a bunch of it on a variety of subjects with other Bullshitters then this is the place you’re looking for.

Today’s lesson: Joy

Goal – Find joy in the everyday acts of living.

Today’s Quote:
Love is the currency of life, knowledge is our quest and service to others is our purpose and our reward.

Joke of the day:
Father: “Doctor my son swallowed my pen, what do I do?”
Doctor: “Use a pencil until I get there.”

Health Tip of the Day:
Like a crime wave, colon cancer starts when a few bad-guy cells go wild. But munching on sweet, juicy apples could help keep those troublemakers in line

Today’s lesson: Patience

Goal – Developing patience in dealing with situations that are not to your liking. Eliminate the resulting emotions that cause feelings of fatigue and dyspepsia.

Today’s Quote:
Gratefulness is the key to a happy life that we hold in our hands, because if we are not grateful, then no matter how much we have we will not be happy — because we will always want to have something else or something more.
David Steindl-Rast

Joke of the day:
Years ago someone in California hollered “Gold,” and people drove from all directions. That’s the way they still drive in California.

A Breakfast Staple That Blocks Heart Failure
Fruit, veggies, exercise — they all make the heart-healthy list. And now, according to a new study, so does this breakfast staple: cereal.

But we’re not talking about Cocoa Puffs. We’re talking about whole-grain cereals — like steel-cut oats, shredded wheat, or muesli. Men in a study who noshed at least once a week on whole-grain cereals were significantly less likely to experience heart failure.

Longer Life in Every Bowl?
Several studies suggest that it’s the fiber in whole-grain cereals that may quell risk factors for heart failure, including high blood pressure, high blood sugar, and obesity. The other heart-protective habits addressed in the study: maintaining a healthy body weight, exercising regularly, eating lots of fruits and vegetables, drinking alcohol only in moderation, and not smoking. (Here’s another health benefit to eating breakfast cereal.)

A Combo Protects Best
Men who practiced at least four of the six lifestyle habits on the study’s heart-healthy list cut their risk for heart failure in half. So start stacking the odds in your heart’s favor with these heart-helping strategies:
